Turn on vestry boiler. Light altar candles. After the service: Clear the altar and put things away. Ask people to help you wash, dry, iron and return any dirty altar linen before next Sunday. Encourage everyone to help clear up, make sure everything is clean and tidy before you leave.
Welcomers
Welcomers Welcoming people as they arrive and giving them anything they will need, e.g. service sheets. One of you should wait for 10–15 minutes to welcome latecomers. Let Kids’ Church know when prayers start and finish.
Worship Leader
Worship Leader Start the gathering/huddle in the café promptly at 10 am by praying for the welcomers, who then leave. Go through the online rota, ensure everyone is there and find replacements if needed. At the end, lead the team in prayer (Lord’s Prayer or Grace). At 10.30 welcome everyone, having read through the guidance notes beforehand. Lead the parts of the service in blue type, and discreetly prompt others if necessary.

Prayers
Prayers [in person or recorded] – Preparing and leading the intercessions and thanksgivings, having checked beforehand on the rota what the theme of the service is. Prepare in advance, by writing your own prayers or finding suitable prayer resources. You are praying on behalf of the whole congregation, so ensure they can honestly agree. When you begin, explain any responses. Be clear, specific, relevant and natural; avoid religious language and prayer clichés.
Chalice
Chalice Assisting the president by taking the bread or chalice (cup of consecrated wine) round the circle. You offer the bread or cup to each person in turn, saying “The body of Christ, the bread of life” or “The blood of Christ, the cup of blessing” as appropriate. When the last person has received, take the plate or cup and cloth back to the altar; you and the president then serve each other with the bread and wine.
Refreshments
Refreshments Each week one of the Rainbow groups will be responsible: the group energizer will be in touch to arrange who from that week’s group will do the task. Before the service: bring milk; set up the tables in church for tea etc, set up steriliser in kitchen; bring the urn into church, fill it ¾ full and switch it on; set out cups, mugs, spoons, and coffee, tea, sugar, perhaps cold drinks (from vestry). After the service: get to the tables quickly and oversee people making self-service drinks. Afterwards: clear up, hand wash and rinse all cups, plates etc, then put them through steriliser. Leave urn and tables in place for café on Monday.
Healing Prayers
Healing Prayers – Before the service: make sure that the healing prayers table is out and fully prepared – olive oil in a small dish, cloth, prayer cards, cross, candle. Make sure you’re one of the first to receive communion, then go to the healing prayers table and light the candle. Those wanting prayer for healing will come to the table, forming a queue if necessary. If you don’t know their first name, ask them. Ask if there is anything particular they would like prayer for; if so, include it in a brief prayer for them. Then pray the prayer on the card and anoint them with oil. If they want to talk or pray further, you can offer to do so after the service.
Readers
Reader(s) [in person or recorded] – Reading one (or both) of the Bible readings. The readings may be given at the top of the current online rota (see https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ABZhdEdLZws7Uk9PVA). If not, and if you haven’t received them by email, contact the preacher in advance to find out what the readings are.
President
The priest who presides at the service and celebrates the eucharist.
Preacher
The person who preaches the sermon or gives an address or reflection.
